For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
